Windsurfing: Hove Wind Direction: WSW Wind Stength: Session time = 2-5.30pm Surf / Sea State: LT@4pm Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Cloudy with sunny spells Max Speed: Distance Covered:
The holy trinity of perfect tides, SW-WSW wind and my Wednesday afternoon
off work came together for what was expected to be a good session. In view
of the healthy amount of W in the direction I checked out KA first and it
looked decent enough so that's where I stayed, but with hindsight sort of
wish I'd continued on to Shoreham. The b*st*rd Hove rip was at full
strength today which in combination with a manageable but nevertheless
annoying shorebreak that was present all the way through low tide meant
that sailing was a lot of hard work with no significantly greater reward.
To get through the rip and shorebreak I rigged big (5.2) and this was often
uncomfortably powerful in the sustained gusts. The waves were more
substantial (as I found out far too often when the rip took me down on the
inside leading to frequent rinsings...) but in the very onshore wind it was
difficult to ride them frontside especially on my narrow trad - admittedly
I may well have had a much better session if the Witchcraft was still in my
possession.
So I kept on thinking at a more cross-shore Shoreham I would have been
having a better session but maybe I'm just being fussy as 3 hours of
powered up waveboard jumping and blasting can't be sniffed at.
